is an interactive sound installation using real-time data to augment a user's body for a virtual sound experience, in which the stories of prisoners and their path to prison is heard. Using the Panoptic design by Jeremy Bentham in which "a single watchman can observe all inmates of an institution without the inmates being able to tell whether or not they are being watched", the user is placed in the position of the watchman where they can peer and spy into the prisoners’ lives.
As the user moves around the invisible watchtower the sound of a different prisoner will begin to move towards them allowing the user to listen in on the prisoner’s story.
Part of my desire with Panopticon is to highlight the fact that we, as the majority, remove these people from society, and yet are continuously fascinated by their lives, and create a “Zoo-like” relationship with the prisoners.
