About
I had the opportunity to design engaging learning experiences for two SCAD courses: Digital Communication and Introduction to Graphic Design. These courses were developed for both on-ground and online formats, blending instructional design principles with creative strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. From crafting interactive activities to aligning content with learning objectives, my work focused on creating dynamic and accessible experiences that empower students to succeed in creative fields.
One of the biggest challenges was designing learning experiences that worked seamlessly for both on-ground and online students, ensuring consistent quality and clarity for synchronous and asynchronous learners. Students came in with widely varying levels of digital literacy, from advanced skills to needing guidance on unzipping files.
To address this, I created interactive skill development modules for the Digital Communication course, allowing students to learn at their own pace while freeing up class time for design thinking activities. I utilized Miro for brainstorming sequencing and leveraged qualtrics data to assess student learning outcomes.
For online courses, I tackled engagement issues by using Blackboard’s learning modules with release conditions. This required students to watch class recordings and pass a quiz before accessing project briefs, fostering accountability and improving outcomes.
Across both formats, I incorporated micro-activities to guide students through key steps in their projects, ensuring active engagement with design thinking. During some activities students learned how to incorporate AI into their ideation and workflow. Students used Perplexity, NotebookLM, Adobe Firefly, Claude.AI, and AI Voiceover Generators.
